Ryan Blaney secures his first NASCAR Cup Series pole since August, outpacing points leader Tyler Reddick in a thrilling qualifying session at Bristol Motor Speedway. Here’s why this achievement could reshape the upcoming race dynamics.
Blaney clocked an impressive lap at 127.064 mph, marking his 13th career pole in 386 starts. His last pole came 19 races ago at Watkins Glen International. Notably, Blaney previously started on pole at Bristol two years back and has led 585 laps there, the highest of any driver without a win on this 0.533-mile track. The 2023 Cup champion expresses optimism, stating, “Cool start to the weekend. Now we've got to do it for 500 laps.”
Reddick, who dominated the early season with four wins in six races, qualified second—his best starting position at Bristol after nine previous attempts. He admits to making a mistake in Turn 3 that cost him time. Chase Briscoe rounds out the top three, while Riley Herbst and Ty Gibbs follow in fourth and fifth, respectively.
However, Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson face setbacks after their cars failed inspection twice, resulting in penalties. Alex Bowman returns, qualifying 27th after missing four races due to vertigo. The stage is set for an exciting race ahead.
