Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and nearly thirty others face trial starting November 2 in a rigged poker case. A federal judge in Brooklyn, New York, announces the date during a status hearing. With too many defendants to try simultaneously, discussions on case division are underway between prosecutors and defense attorneys. Federal prosecutors plan to extend plea offers to twelve defendants soon, while nine others engage in “productive conversations” about guilty pleas. Billups and Jones are accused of enticing players to mob-controlled poker games, both pleading not guilty. Evidence includes body camera footage, arrest records, and over 100,000 pages of financial documents. Billups remains on unpaid leave as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers since his arrest, living in Denver after being released on $5 million bail.
