Kawhi Leonard sits out the LA Clippers' regular-season finale against the Golden State Warriors, prioritizing his health ahead of the postseason. This decision could have major implications for the Clippers as they gear up for the play-in tournament.
Leonard has battled wrist and ankle issues recently, prompting Coach Tyronn Lue to rest him for the 115-110 victory over Golden State. Despite missing the finale, Leonard finished the season with a career-high average of 27.9 points, along with 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists. He played 68 games this season, his second-most as a Clipper, a significant improvement from the previous season, where injuries limited him to just 37 games.
Lue appreciates Leonard’s presence on the bench, emphasizing the importance of his support for younger players. "Just being engaged... is huge for these young guys," Lue stated.
Leonard's absence from Game 82 does not hinder his All-NBA candidacy, as he qualifies for postseason honors after playing in his 65th game. Meanwhile, the Warriors secure the No. 10 seed for the play-in tournament and will face the Clippers again on Wednesday, setting the stage for an intense rematch.
