Chicago Bears’ board of directors votes to advance stadium renovations in Hammond, Indiana, intensifying discussions about the team's future. The Indiana House of Representatives previously approved a bill in February to establish a Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority aimed at financing and constructing a new domed stadium. The Bears’ current lease in Chicago runs until 2033 but can be terminated early with a fee, making the prospect of leaving more feasible.
Chairman George McCaskey and team president Kevin Warren express optimism, stating, “We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region, connecting Northwest Indiana to the South Side of Chicago.” They emphasize that this development will unite communities and create new opportunities for residents and businesses alike.
Located 40 miles from the Bears' headquarters in Lake Forest and 20 miles from Soldier Field, the proposed Hammond stadium reflects the team's evolving ambitions as it navigates the complexities of fan engagement and regional identity.
