Kyler Murray officially joins the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal following his release from the Arizona Cardinals. The contract features a no-tag clause, allowing Murray to enter free agency unrestricted next offseason unless he signs an extension with the Vikings. This move positions Murray to potentially compete for the starting quarterback spot in 2026 against J.J. McCarthy, who had a rocky first season as starter in 2025. Murray's new deal comes at the veteran's minimum, with the Cardinals covering the majority of his $36.8 million salary. Last season, Murray played just five games, throwing for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions before a foot injury sidelined him. The Cardinals finished 3-14 and fired coach Jonathan Gannon, leading to Murray’s release. His performance has drawn mixed reviews, but he remains a valuable asset for teams seeking a QB reset.
