Francois Methot is the new head coach of the Boston Fleet, aiming to elevate the team’s performance in the PWHL. This decision marks a significant shift as Methot replaces Kris Sparre, who departed for a coaching position in Hamilton, Ontario.
Methot brings extensive experience, having developed talent in both men's and women's hockey over the past decade. He previously played professionally for 11 years in Germany and spent six seasons in the American Hockey League, primarily with the Rochester Americans. Recently, he served as the general manager and head coach of the Rochester Jr. Americans in the North American Hockey League, where he launched a successful girls' hockey program featuring eight teams.
Under Methot's guidance, the Fleet hopes to build on last season's success, where they finished second in the standings, improving by 18 points from the previous year before falling to Ottawa in the semifinals. Key players are in flux as the team transitions, highlighted by the decision to protect rookie standout Haley Winn while leaving forward Alina Muller exposed in the expansion draft.
With a strong focus on player development and effective communication, Methot aims to create a competitive culture within the Boston Fleet as they enter their fourth season.
