Paul Maurice reaches a major milestone tonight as he coaches his 2,000th regular-season game for the Florida Panthers against the Seattle Kraken. He joins the legendary Scotty Bowman as the only coaches to hit this mark. Maurice, 59, reflects on his journey, acknowledging the incredible people around him throughout his career.
Since starting in 1995, he has faced 171 of the 400 coaches in NHL history and coached 387 players over his tenure. His career stats are strikingly close: 5,691 goals scored by his teams versus 5,678 against.
Despite a challenging season marred by injuries, the Panthers’ core remains intact, with Maurice credited for transforming the franchise into a competitive force. "I hope that there's a player that says, 'He changed my career,'" Maurice shares, highlighting his commitment to player development and teamwork.
