The New York Rangers place captain J.T. Miller on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. This injury is new, sustained during Monday's 5-4 OT loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Miller must miss at least seven days, sidelining him for upcoming games against the Maple Leafs, Devils, and Flyers. In his first season as captain, Miller has struggled with injuries since training camp. He contributed 14 goals and 38 points in 51 games this season but holds a minus-24 rating. The injury may have occurred during a net-front battle against Columbus. The Rangers face a disappointing season and are likely to miss the playoffs. GM Chris Drury indicates a "retool" is underway, with star winger Artemi Panarin and defenseman Carson Soucy already traded. Veteran Vincent Trocheck could be next as the NHL trade deadline approaches.
