Day one of the 2026 Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta showcases thrilling sailing with perfect Mistral winds at 14 knots. Here’s why the outcomes from today set the tone for an intense competition ahead.
The race kicked off at 12:05 p.m. with the 100-foot Dubois yacht Nostromo taking the lead in a staggered start, launching each superyacht two minutes apart. The Race Committee established a challenging 28-mile course through the stunning La Maddalena Archipelago. The fleet navigated the Passo delle Bisce strait and rounded key landmarks, including the Isola dei Monaci and Soffi, before finishing off Porto Cervo.
In the Blue fleet, the Swan 115 Moat, helmed by YCCS member Juan Ball and tactician Cole Parada, clinched victory by a mere 50 seconds over the Southern Wind 108 Gelliceaux. Cervo, the 39-meter Vitters, debuted impressively in third. Meanwhile, in the White fleet, Nostromo triumphed, dominating the Corinthian Division under Danish tactician Jesper Bank. The Southern Wind Trophy leaderboard sees Gelliceaux leading, followed by Morgana and Liberty Squared.
With 17 entries in total, four superyachts participated in the Southern Wind Rendezvous. Tomorrow promises more excitement with similar wind conditions and the next race set for noon.
