Oliver Solberg returns to the WRC podium after a tough streak. This second place at the Rally of Portugal is crucial for his title aspirations. Here’s why this result changes the dynamics of the season for the Toyota driver.

After facing mechanical issues in Kenya and crashes in Croatia and the Canary Islands, Solberg needed a solid result. Although he had shown competitive pace, he had only scored 21 points in the last three races. In Portugal, despite a second puncture that dropped him to fourth place, his perseverance and the setbacks of his rivals allowed him to finish in the top 3.

Solberg led on two occasions during the rally, although he admitted he didn't feel completely comfortable with his GR Yaris. He acknowledged that mental pressure was a key factor, as he couldn’t afford another poor result after his previous difficulties. "This rally was different mentally. It was really tough, and I think I haven’t been myself in the interviews at the end of the stages," he stated.

With this second place, Solberg not only regains confidence but also positions himself back in the championship fight. His next challenge will be returning to the asphalt, where he hopes to continue his rise.
