Manchester United is on the verge of landing two new midfielders, with deals for Ederson and Mateus Fernandes reportedly picking up speed. This move comes as United opts not to renew Casemiro’s contract, paving the way for his departure after an impressive season at 34 years old. With Manuel Ugarte also set to leave, a midfield overhaul at Old Trafford is imminent.

United faces stiff competition for top target Elliot Anderson from Manchester City, shifting their attention to Atalanta’s Ederson and West Ham’s Fernandes. According to CaughtOffside, United leads the race for the latter, having accelerated discussions with his agents. Arsenal shows interest in Fernandes as a potential replacement for Christian Norgaard, but United appears to be in the strongest position. The 21-year-old is eager to partner with compatriot Bruno Fernandes and compete in the Champions League. While previous reports suggested Fernandes could cost up to £80m, recent claims indicate he may be available for €50-60m (£43-52m) following West Ham’s relegation.

Ederson is expected to join first, with advanced talks suggesting a deal worth up to £43m. United is also eyeing a potential third midfielder, targeting Southampton’s Shea Charles for around £20m.
