Jose Mourinho pushes Real Madrid to secure Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori as part of a major defensive overhaul. This move could significantly impact both clubs this season.

Real Madrid is on a mission to reclaim dominance after a trophyless campaign plagued by defensive issues. With Dani Carvajal and David Alaba departing, Mourinho has already locked in Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer from Liverpool and activated Denzel Dumfries’ €20m release clause from Inter Milan.

Spanish journalists Sergio Valentin and Ramon Alvarez de Mon report that Mourinho is not done yet, eyeing Calafiori for his versatility as both a center-back and left-back. Calafiori, 24, joined Arsenal from Bologna for £42m in 2024 and has become a key player for Mikel Arteta, even if he sometimes shares time with Piero Hincapie.

Despite the interest from Madrid, Arsenal remains firm on their stance against selling Calafiori. Sources indicate the Gunners have no intention of parting with him, especially with his contract running until 2029. So far, Calafiori shows no desire to leave, putting pressure on Mourinho to consider alternative options for his defensive lineup.
