Peter Schmeichel claims Manchester United's decision to include an obligation in Rasmus Hojlund’s loan deal with Napoli is a significant error. Since joining Napoli, Hojlund has found his scoring touch, tallying 14 goals in all competitions this season. If Napoli secures a Champions League spot, they are obligated to sign him permanently for £38 million, a scenario that looks increasingly likely. Schmeichel expresses his frustration, believing Hojlund “could have been absolutely fantastic” for United. He highlights that returning to Manchester isn’t feasible since Napoli has already qualified for the Champions League.
Former teammate Nicky Butt echoes Schmeichel's concerns, labeling Hojlund's treatment as “wrong” and fearing that Benjamin Sesko might face similar challenges. Butt emphasizes the pressure on young players without adequate support from the team. Michael Owen also adds to the criticism, noting that it’s tough to assess a striker’s potential in a dysfunctional team.
