Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has made a definitive call on Alejandro Garnacho’s future as the club prepares to sell four players this summer. This comes after a dismal 2025/26 season that saw Chelsea finish tenth and miss out on European competition.
Alonso, who recently signed a four-year deal, is now in a position to reshape the squad. He’s pushing for two to three experienced players to enhance the team's young talent and has been granted greater authority over transfers. The Blues have set high price tags for Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella at £120m and £60m, respectively, but are not actively seeking buyers. Backup goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is on the market after struggling for game time, and Axel Disasi is also looking for a new club following his loan at West Ham.
With Nicolas Jackson returning from loan, at least one of Marc Guiu, Liam Delap, or Jackson must depart. Notably, Alonso views Garnacho, who joined for £40m last summer, as surplus to requirements after a lackluster season with just one goal and four assists. Chelsea is open to offers for the 21-year-old, who still has six years on his contract. Meanwhile, Jamie Gittens, another summer signing, may get more time to prove himself despite his injury-riddled debut season.
