127 arrests took place in Paris following PSG's qualification for the Champions League final. We're breaking down the implications of these disturbances on the upcoming event.
On Wednesday night, PSG eliminated Bayern Munich (1-1, 5-4 on aggregate), and this victory sparked tensions in the streets of Paris. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez announced that 127 people were arrested in the metropolitan area, including 107 in Paris. Among the incidents, eleven people were injured, one seriously, along with 23 police officers sustaining minor injuries.
Nunez emphasized the responsiveness of law enforcement and promised an enhanced security presence for the final against Arsenal, scheduled for May 30. He warned that interventions would be systematic and that any disturbances would be unacceptable. A controversy also erupted with Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire regarding the unilateral announcement of a fan zone for the final. The minister expressed his concerns and stressed the need to coordinate with the authorities.
The final will take place in Budapest, with an earlier kickoff at 6 PM to promote a family-friendly atmosphere.
