Damian McKenzie calls for change in New Zealand Rugby's selection policy. The All Blacks playmaker advocates for including overseas-based players in Test matches. Current NZR rules limit selection to those playing domestically, unless granted a sabbatical. Former coach Scott Robertson previously supported a review of these rules but now backs the existing policy. His successor, Dave Rennie, has shown interest in recalling star lock Brodie Retallick, currently in Japan. McKenzie, with 74 Tests under his belt, believes allowing overseas players would strengthen the national team. “You just want the best players playing for your country,” he states. If NZR alters its stance, it would mirror Rugby Australia's recent decision to lift their Giteau Law, enabling more international talent in their squad. This shift could open opportunities for players like Noah Lolesio and Taniela Tupou, currently overseas but still in the mix for Test selection.
