Joseph Dweba remains determined to return to the Springboks despite an ongoing absence from the national team. With six caps between 2021 and 2023, Dweba is keen to break back into a squad that recently celebrated a Rugby World Cup victory and successive Rugby Championship titles. Competing against top hookers like Malcolm Marx and Bongi Mbonambi, Dweba isn't giving up hope. “100%, it’s still a desire to play for them,” he states.

His current focus is on excelling with the Exeter Chiefs, a move that director of rugby Rob Baxter believes could reignite Dweba’s international career. Baxter highlights past examples of players like Nic White and Dean Mumm, who reclaimed their spots on the international stage after thriving at Exeter. Dweba has quickly become vital for the Chiefs this season, contributing significantly to their push for the Premiership playoffs and success in the EPCR Challenge Cup.

“I’ve definitely enjoyed it in Exeter,” Dweba shares, likening the competitive nature of the Premiership to Super Rugby. As he continues to impress in England, the rugby world watches closely to see if Dweba can transform his club success into a Springbok return.
