Ma’a Nonu, the legendary All Blacks star, announces his departure from RC Toulon at the end of the season after rejoining the team in June 2025 as injury cover. This exit raises questions about his future in rugby.
Nonu, who scored four tries in 15 appearances, made history by becoming the oldest player to compete in the knockout stages of the Investec Champions Cup. His contributions helped Toulon secure a memorable win against the Stormers in the round of 16. The club paid tribute to him, stating, “You will always remain in the Red & Black Family.”
Joining Nonu in leaving Toulon are teammates Brian Alainu’uese, Daniel Brennan, and Giorgi Javakhia, while coaching staff Andrea Masi, Gilles Allou, and Sergio Parisse will also exit. Parisse heads to Italy for the upcoming Nations Championship.
After Toulon’s last home match, a hard-fought 27-22 win over Bordeaux, Nonu and Alainu’uese were honored with a final Haka. While his next destination remains uncertain, Nonu’s experience and talent make him a valuable asset for clubs worldwide. Notably, he has yet to play in England, raising speculation about a potential move to Newcastle Red Bulls, who seek to bolster their squad.
