Markus Muller, the 18-year-old Stormers centre, shares his excitement after attending the Springboks' first national alignment camp of 2026. Alongside fellow teen Kai Pratt, Muller is part of a 49-man squad aiming for the Rugby World Cup title defense next year. His call-up marks a key step in Rassie Erasmus’ succession plan, not just for 2024 but also looking ahead to the 2031 World Cup in the USA.
Muller describes the experience as surreal, recalling his shock when he received the call from Springboks manager Charles Wessels. “I couldn’t believe it,” he says. Once at camp, he feels welcomed by multiple World Cup winners. “They were all extremely friendly,” he adds. For Muller, training with legends who inspired him during his school years is a remarkable full-circle moment.
