Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu faces a potential three-month absence from the Springboks after suffering a serious ankle injury during the Stormers' victory over Cardiff in the United Rugby Championship. This setback raises significant concerns for the Springboks as they navigate an already extensive absentee list.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu was forced off the field early in the second half, and post-game reports indicate he suffered a syndesmosis injury, commonly known as a high ankle sprain. Stormers coach John Dobson described the injury as “pretty serious,” leaving the 24-year-old on crutches afterward. His absence rules him out for the remainder of the URC campaign and the upcoming Nations Championship matches against England, Scotland, and Wales in July. Furthermore, he risks missing critical fixtures in the Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks and a Test against Argentina.
Despite this setback, Feinberg-Mngomezulu remains determined. On Instagram, he expressed frustration but emphasized his commitment to return stronger, stating, “Another injury, another chance to come back hungry, determined and focused.” With the Springboks already missing key players like Lood de Jager and RG Snyman, the loss of Feinberg-Mngomezulu is a significant blow as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
