Tony Brown is set to make a high-profile move from the Springboks to the All Blacks, joining New Zealand Rugby’s coaching staff in 2028. This two-year contract follows his current role as the Springboks’ attack coach, which concludes after the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

NZR chief executive Steve Lancaster expresses excitement about Brown’s decision, highlighting his status as a world-class coach sought after globally. Brown’s arrival signals a strategic move to enhance the All Blacks' coaching lineup, aligning with the vision of incoming high-performance director Don Tricker.

Lancaster confirms that new All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie is fully supportive of the appointment, emphasizing a collaborative approach to building the coaching team. Brown’s transition is particularly impactful for the Springboks, where he has been pivotal since their 2023 Rugby World Cup victory.

This marks NZR’s third attempt to secure Brown, who had previously declined offers to join the All Blacks under Ian Foster and Scott Robertson. A former New Zealand fly-half with 18 Tests to his name, Brown remains dedicated to his current role while expressing a desire to return home. SA Rugby chief executive Rian Oberholzer acknowledges Brown’s loyalty and commitment during his time with the Springboks.
