Sailability Celebrates 30 Years of Inclusive Sailing

The organization celebrated its 30th anniversary, reflecting three decades of commitment to making sailing accessible for everyone. This celebration took place in June at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, bringing together about 120 guests from various branches across New South Wales.
Additionally, the event highlighted the entirely volunteer-driven nature of Sailability. With over 60 branches across Australia, the organization relies on the dedication of volunteers to help individuals of all abilities enjoy sailing. The following day, a conference welcomed 70 branch representatives who engaged in discussions about the future of inclusive sailing.
Honoring Contributions in Inclusive Sailing
Furthermore, the anniversary dinner served as a platform to honor those who have played pivotal roles in the organization's development. Members with 10, 20, or even 30 years of service received recognition pins. This included Denis Critchley, the president of the first Sailability branch, and other notable figures such as Chris Mitchell from Hansa Systems.
In addition, several accomplished sailors were recognized for their contributions. Wendy Evans, Lindsay and Maria Dalmon, and Maryanne Ireland were among those celebrated. Their dedication to the sport and the community exemplifies the spirit of Sailability NSW. Ame Barnbrook, a member of the Paralympian sailing team, also attended, showcasing the pathways that Sailability can create.

Notably, the conference featured an impressive lineup of speakers discussing various topics related to sailing and inclusivity. From boat insurance to the use of sailing simulators, attendees gained insight into improving the sailing experience. Sailability NSW's president, John Price, emphasized the importance of continuously evolving the organization to meet new challenges.
Additionally, the organization aims to foster collaboration with all sailing bodies to eliminate barriers. Price stated, "Our new vision statement is to remove all barriers and provide opportunities for everybody to sail." This commitment to inclusivity remains a core focus as Sailability NSW looks ahead.
