Black Foils fans can expect a thrilling return at the Canada SailGP in Halifax next month. Here’s why this comeback could reshape the competition and excite the sailing community.
SailGP League CEO Russell Coutts shares a teaser on social media, revealing the new AC50 is in the final stages of construction at the SailGP Technologies facility in Southampton. The team’s previous F50 suffered severe damage in Fremantle and Auckland, with a collision in Auckland rendering it a write-off despite successful repairs from an earlier incident. Meanwhile, the French DS Automobiles team managed to salvage parts from the Black Foils' F50 for their repairs.
Missing the Sydney SailGP event, the Black Foils now prepare to debut a completely new F50 in Halifax, set for mid-June, or potentially in Portsmouth on July 26-27. This marks a pivotal moment for the New Zealand team as they aim to regain momentum in the series.
SailGP's Circuit of the Americas continues this weekend in New York, leading into the Halifax event and subsequent races across British, European, and Middle Eastern venues. The stage is set for an exciting comeback as the Black Foils look to make their mark once again on the international sailing scene.
