Jono Ridler’s 1,367km Swim4TheOcean mission nears its climax. He arrives at Wellington Harbour entrance today, with his final swim scheduled for noon tomorrow. Public support surges, reflecting the nation’s commitment to ocean health, as over 60,000 signatures call for an end to bottom trawling.
After swimming past Pencarrow Lighthouse, Ridler completed his latest leg south of Barrett Reef around 7 PM on Thursday. Today, he plunges back into the water, targeting the stretch between Pencarrow and Palmer Head, aiming for Scorching Bay.
The final leg kicks off near Scorching Bay, with Ridler navigating Wellington's inner harbour, past Oriental Bay and into Whairepo Lagoon for the concluding strokes of his historic journey. He finishes in central Wellington lagoon at noon tomorrow, marking the end of an epic swim that began at Waikuku Beach on January 5.
Post-swim, Ridler walks to Parliament, where he meets the Hon Tama Potaka, Minister of Conservation. This moment symbolizes the delivery of his urgent message to decision-makers, backed by thousands of New Zealanders advocating for change.
