The second Preliminary Regatta for the 38th America's Cup is officially postponed, disrupting the anticipated sailing schedule.
This decision could have significant implications for the teams preparing for the prestigious event, as the new dates and details are yet to be announced.
Race Director Iain Murray confirmed the postponement after receiving a recommendation from ACE Italy and consultation with the host venue. He noted, "It is not possible for ACP to hold the Naples Preliminary Regatta from 25-28 June 2026." While no specific reason for the delay is provided, the postponement allows for the possibility of rescheduling in Naples in the future.
Originally, the regatta was expected to align with the upcoming event in Cagliari, Sardinia, next week. Teams were eager to set up in Naples and utilize the venue for their AC40s as early as April. Currently, seven teams have committed to the 38th America's Cup, with match dates set for July 10-18, 2027. However, the schedule for the Louis Vuitton Cup, the Challenger Selection Series, remains unannounced. Late entries closed at the end of March, adding urgency to the teams as they navigate this unexpected delay.
