Day 1 of the 52nd St. Thomas International Regatta delivers exceptional sailing conditions. Competitors enjoy 10-15 knots of breeze, a brief squall, and intriguing currents, making for a near-perfect opening day. “It was an absolutely perfect day,” says Dave Franzel, crew aboard Boat Drinks.

Nearly 40 boats race in various classes, including CSA Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker Racing, along with IC24s, Hobie Waves, and Sunfish. Participants come from the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, and several U.S. states, plus the UK and Ireland.

In the CSA Spinnaker Racing Class, Puerto Rico's Enrique Figueroa helms Exodus, a Melges 24, to first place after navigating a tactical course. The USA’s Ron O'Hanley with Cookson 50 Privateer takes second, while Donald Nicholson’s J/121 Apollo secures third, just three points behind.

The One-Design IC24 Class stands out with 14 boats, showcasing fierce competition. Puerto Rico’s Marco Teixidor leads Cachado to victory, followed by Mark Plaxton's INTAC and Teddy Nicolosi's Bill T in second and third, respectively.

Ramon Gonzalez aboard Sembrador aims to refine starts after a tough day, while Joyce Campbell highlights a productive clinic, noting immediate improvements on the water.
