Tension mounts as the competition tightens in the final leg of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec. Here’s why the shifting winds could redefine the outcome of this challenging race.
Nicolas Lunven (PRB), currently leading, faces an uphill battle as his hard-earned advantage dwindles. At the BXA waypoint, the wind has eased, allowing Alexis Thomas (Wings of the Ocean) to surge ahead, closely followed by Tom Goron (Xplorassur) and Eliaz Morineau (Demain sans HPV) in the top three.
Sailors grapple with light winds and shifting breezes, demanding laser focus and expert navigation. Thomas, the first skipper out of Pornichet, has skillfully managed his positioning but remains cautious amid the uncertainty that characterizes La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec.
The fleet compresses at BXA, with only 20 minutes separating 19 competitors, intensifying the close-quarters racing as they beat upwind towards the Occidentale de Sein lighthouse, 210 nautical miles away.
Looking ahead, light and unstable winds will persist, but a frontal system is expected to bring a robust 20-knot westerly breeze overnight. This could be the turning point, allowing sailors to finally unleash the full performance of their Figaros. Until then, every movement counts as competitors chase every fraction of speed.
