Sam Goodchild gears up for his first solo race aboard MACIF Santé Prévoyance, the vessel that conquered the last Vendée Globe. Here’s why his debut could redefine his sailing career.

The 1000 Race, set to launch on May 3rd from Port-la-Forêt, serves as crucial qualification for the upcoming Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe starting November 1st. Goodchild, a 37-year-old Franco-British sailor, aims to forge a powerful partnership with the renowned IMOCA. He emphasizes the boat's reliability, stating, “It allows us to sail in 40 knots without any worries.”

With a packed schedule ahead, including the Vendée Arctique on June 7th, Goodchild's preparation is comprehensive. He balances rigorous physical training in Lorient—running, cycling, and strength training—with strategic mental conditioning honed from his previous Vendée Globe experience. "It's about lifestyle; integrating it into daily routines conserves energy during races," he explains.

Goodchild feels the weight of expectations, as MACIF Santé Prévoyance has a storied history of victories. "The pressure is on me! But I'm ready and confident," he asserts. His goals are clear: perform, win, and pave the way toward the ultimate challenge in November 2026. The countdown to the 1000 Race has begun!
