The Beck Trophy final at Overy Staithe Sailing Club delivers thrilling races under perfect conditions. Here’s why the results could reshape the standings for the rest of the series.

On May 2nd, the Seafarer's Pennant race kicked off with a steady force 2 wind and sunny skies. The fleet split at the start, with Alex Scoles and Paul Beachell’s Sharpie leading the charge to the first mark, followed closely by Andy Turner in his OK. Despite challenges from Bernard Clark and Spike Turner, Scoles ultimately secured the victory with a time of 2343, followed by Rob Archer in his Laser at 2365, and Beachell and Smith’s Sharpie at 2367.

The following day, the Shipwrecked Mariners Pennant race presented a stark contrast with light winds, complicating tactics. Alex Scoles again started strong but saw Pete Turner surge ahead after a tactical maneuver during a luffing match. Turner claimed the win, finishing first, followed by Bernard Clark and Sam Worsley in third.

Across the four races of the Beck Trophy, personal handicaps played a crucial role. With 22 boats competing, the final standings see Pete Turner in first, followed by Bernard Clark and the duo of Smith and Beachell tied for third. The competition remains fierce as the season progresses.
