Giuseppe Puttini's Shirlaf clinches victory in the combined Maxi 4/5 class at the Regata dei Tre Golfi, despite finishing last among the faster yachts. This win marks Shirlaf's third triumph in this category, having previously taken the title in 2021 and 2024.
With a 50-year legacy, the Swan 65 ketch faced challenges, including a significant halt due to light winds near Punta Campanella. Mario Noto, Shirlaf's mainsail trimmer, expressed satisfaction with the race, highlighting a smoother passage past Li Galli compared to previous years. The race is a local favorite for Puttini, who cherishes the Sorrento waters.
In the Maxi 3 class, Guido Paolo Gamucci’s Mylius 60 Cippa Lippa X crossed the finish line first, completing the race in just under 25 hours. He praised his team's strategic offshore maneuvering, which paid off significantly. Gamucci now hopes to secure victory in the IMA Maxi Europeans after finishing as runner-up three times.
Joining the podium in Maxi 3 were Paul Berger's Swan 80 Kallima and Jean-Sebastien Decaux's Wally 94 Sensei, with Kallima defending its champion status. The IMA Maxi Europeans now move into an exciting second phase of inshore and coastal racing.
