Takashi Okura's Sled triumphs in the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, showcasing their consistent excellence with a first and a third in tough conditions. This victory marks a significant start to their season, and the dramatic moments leading up to it reveal the resilience of the team.
Sled's success hinges on a crucial moment when bowman Ivan Peute resolved a mainsail halyard issue just minutes before the last race. Climbing the mast with twelve minutes to go, he secured the sail just in time to allow Sled to compete. Tactician Francesco Bruni praises Peute as the MVP, emphasizing the teamwork that led to their win.
Despite a rough start with a 13th place finish due to penalties, Sled capitalized on the building wind conditions to secure a commanding overall victory. The team finished with the lowest aggregate score in the 14-boat fleet, demonstrating their capacity for recovery.
Meanwhile, overnight leaders Provezza faltered, finishing seventh and fourteenth in the final races, while Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon Aviation took second overall, a stark contrast to their last-place finish a year prior. Dutch rookie Pieter Heerema steered No Way Back to third, marking a strong debut.
