Solway Yacht Club hosts RYA Scotland’s Disability Awareness Training in Kippford. On March 21, representatives from sailing clubs across South West Scotland join forces to enhance inclusivity in sailing for those with disabilities. Commodore Scott Train opens the session, led by Laura Cowan from RYA Scotland, with participants donning odd socks to celebrate Down’s Syndrome Day.
The Club recently upgraded its facilities, thanks to a grant from the Dumfries and Galloway Coastal Benefit Fund. Building contractors South West Trades Ltd complete the project just in time for the course, allowing participants to tour the newly finished amenities. A grand opening is set for May 16 to celebrate the achievements. The Club also commits to hosting the 2027 Sailability Scotland Championships, ensuring a welcoming environment for disabled sailors. These initiatives aim to foster greater participation and engagement in club activities moving forward.
