Sailing intensifies its "world championship" phase with just 197 days until the Grand Final of the SSL Gold Cup and 27 days until racing kicks off in Switzerland. This countdown marks a crucial moment for teams as they prepare for fierce competition.
The SSL 47 fleet is primed and ready following a comprehensive winter of preparations, including technical checks, maintenance, and performance testing. After the opening qualifying round in Pattaya, Thailand, the boats return to Lake Neuchâtel, where the next stage of qualification begins.
From June 2-4, teams from Africa and Oceania, including Tahiti, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Morocco, will compete for two coveted gold tickets. This marks a significant debut for Seychelles, Morocco, and Mozambique on the SSL starting line. Tahiti, led by Teva Plichart, aims to build on its impressive Round of 16 finish from the first SSL Gold Cup.
European teams follow, featuring nations like Austria, Slovenia, and Norway, showcasing a mix of Olympians and world champions. One nation from each European group will qualify for the prestigious SSL Gold Cup in Rio de Janeiro, where 40 top national teams will vie for the title from November 18 to December 13. The excitement is palpable as the fleet gears up for an unforgettable competition.
