Fifteen-year-old Kai Marks Dasent just completed a remarkable 70-mile solo sail from St Vincent to Grenada, showcasing extraordinary skill and determination. This achievement not only highlights his sailing prowess but also sets the stage for future opportunities in youth sailing.

Kai departed Blue Lagoon at 5:41 a.m. and reached Grenada at 4:06 p.m., finishing the journey in 10 hours and 25 minutes. Supported by a Horizon Yacht Charters safety boat, he faced challenges like seaweed clogging his rudder, keeping him on his toes. Despite running out of music after eight hours, the sight of Grenada motivated him to push through. His efforts raise funds for Vincy Sailing, aimed at enhancing competitive sailing opportunities and launching a Learn to Sail program for local children.

This solo voyage caps an impressive year for Kai, who has already claimed 1st place at the Antigua ILCA Nationals and secured a spot on the podium at Barbados Sailing Week. With plans to compete at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships in Denmark, Kai’s journey continues to inspire young sailors across St Vincent and the Grenadines, paving the way for future talent in the sport.
