Race Day Highlights at Lake Garda
Notably, the opening ceremony paid tribute to the late Bill "Billy" Goldsberry, a cherished figure in the sailing community. Former Melges 24 World Champion Richard Clarke honored Goldsberry with heartfelt words, prompting a moment of silence from all participants.
Furthermore, the racing commenced on schedule at 1 PM under the direction of Principal Race Officer Gabriella Gabrielli. The initial race was held in a steady 10-knot southerly breeze. As the day progressed, conditions improved, allowing for thrilling downwind planing.
Standout Performances and the Competition Ahead
Interestingly, a mix of competitors captured victories across the three races. Luka Sangulin's Panjic from Croatia won the first race, followed by Michele Paoletti's Strambapapà in the second. Andrea Racchelli's Altea finished strong, taking the final race of the day.
Moreover, consistency played a vital role in the standings. Michele Paoletti, the former European Champion, leads with a score of 11 points after finishing with a 7-1-3 record.
