The 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 fleets conclude their preliminary series at the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca. After three intense days on the Bay of Palma, today marks a pivotal moment as the top 25 boats from each fleet advance to the Gold fleet. Each team starts the finals with a score reflecting their ranking, resetting the competition.
Day 3 presents challenges. Strong morning winds delay racing, while afternoon conditions allow only partial races. A single race in each 49er fleet reshuffles standings, creating unpredictability as teams gear up for the finals.
In the Nacra 17, Sweden’s Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson lead with consistent top finishes. The 49er fleet remains competitive, with Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid from the USA currently in the lead. The 49erFX sees Spanish world champions Paula Barceló and Maria Cantero topping the leaderboard after a solid series.
With only the top 25 advancing and scores reset, the regatta enters its elimination phase. Racing intensifies, and every decision carries weight. Gold fleet racing kicks off tomorrow, setting the stage for an electrifying showdown in Palma.
