The WASZP GP at Royal Victoria Yacht Club showcases thrilling contrasts as sailors tackle wildly different conditions over two days.

This weekend's races reveal the resilience and skill of competitors, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Sixteen sailors converged on the Isle of Wight for the second GP of the 2026 season, kicking off with a serene Saturday featuring six NASCAR-format races in idyllic 8-15 knot winds. Max Rawlinson dominated, clinching wins in Races 1, 2, and 6, while Alex Jones fought back with victories in Races 3 and 4. Martin Evans also shone with a win in Race 5, and James Deaton and James Broad secured strong podium finishes.

However, Sunday flipped the script with challenging gusts reaching 20 knots. The fleet faced steep chop, demanding strategic navigation. Rawlinson continued his dominance, winning Races 7 and 8, and finishing second in Race 9 behind Evans, who delivered a stunning performance to take the last race. Rawlinson's overall victory came with just 9 points, while Jones claimed second with 14 points.

In the 7.5m rig, Harry O'Callaghan triumphed on Day 2, while Freddie Jones excelled in the 6.9m rig, highlighting the depth of talent on display. The Solent provided the ultimate test, and the season is just beginning.
