Oliver Solberg emerges as the leader in the 2026 Rally Portugal after an electrifying start where the differences are minimal. Here’s why this result could mark a turning point in the competition.

The Swedish Toyota driver dominated the opening day with solid times in the three stages held, finishing with a lead of just 3.4 seconds over Adrien Fourmaux, who also showed his competitiveness with Hyundai. Sébastien Ogier, Thierry Neuville, and Elfyn Evans remain in the fight, promising an intense battle for the rest of the rally.

The first stage of Águeda-Sever saw Fourmaux set the best time, but Solberg responded decisively in Sever-Albergaria, where he clocked a time 3.6 seconds faster than the Frenchman. Despite his new engine, Dani Sordo couldn't keep up the pace and lost time due to tire issues.

Neuville also shined by finishing second in the longest stage, while Ogier, after a challenging start, ended up third overall. The numbers from this start reveal a very close competition, and what follows promises to be a spectacle full of surprises.
