Aldeburgh Yacht Club hosts a thrilling Flying Fifteen Open meeting, showcasing the best of river sailing. This event highlights why competitive sailing in such a picturesque setting is unmatched.
With twelve boats on the water, including three visiting teams, the turnout signals a strong start to the season. Saturday's races utilized the tides to navigate upriver, with a challenging beat near a sharp river bend against a powerful flood current. Tactically demanding, the courses prompted frequent position changes over three intense races.
The camaraderie continued off the water with a vibrant buffet dinner that brought together more than forty sailors, including participants from the concurrent Wayfarer Open, creating a lively atmosphere.
Sunday's racing shifted below the Martello Tower for two windward-leeward races in more open waters, contrasting the day before. Ultimately, the visitors dominated the podium, with Justin and Amanda Waples from RCYC claiming victory, followed closely by Chris and Emma Sparks from Waldringfield in second.
The weekend not only featured fierce competition but also a spirit of good sportsmanship. Aldeburgh warmly invites visitor boats, with two more events scheduled: the AYC Spring Regatta on May 23-24 and the Summer Regatta from August 23-28.
