The Geechee Sailing Club’s annual St. Patrick's Regatta kicks off its 47th edition on March 21-22 in Savannah, Georgia. Competitors race on the Wilmington River, Wassaw Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean. Open to keelboats with a minimum 17-foot waterline and PHRF ratings between 40 and 300, the event includes spinnaker, non-spinnaker, and Rhodes 19 classes. Saturday features fleet races, while Sunday showcases a long-distance Pursuit Race. Event chair Angela Margolit highlights the regatta as the first major event of the season, drawing local attention, even during Covid. Sailors can expect strong winds and significant tidal currents. Margolit advises competitors to be mindful of the tides, as course shapes can vary based on the river's flow. The regatta promises excitement, camaraderie, and a festive Saturday night party.
