The American team Argo Racing is set to launch a groundbreaking Ultim-sized trimaran by 2029, aiming for record-breaking feats. This ambitious project, designed by VPLP Design and built by Multiplast, could redefine offshore multihull racing.
Owner Jason Carroll, a prominent figure in multi-class racing, expands his horizons from the MOD70 Argo, which has already made waves across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Atlantic. The new trimaran, measuring 32 meters long and 23 meters wide, represents a significant leap forward. “We reached the limits of what the MOD70 could achieve in terms of records,” says Chad Corning, managing director of Argo Racing. The team now targets prestigious challenges like the North Atlantic record and the Route of Discovery.
VPLP Design brings a wealth of experience, having previously crafted successful Ultims like Banque Populaire XI. Their solid working relationship with Argo Racing, developed through past projects, made collaboration an easy choice. Construction at Multiplast will commence in Vannes, with the hull lines expected by the end of 2026. Yann Penfornis, Managing Director of Multiplast, expresses enthusiasm for this record-breaking endeavor, promising a dedicated effort to ensure its success. The countdown to a new era in offshore racing is officially on.
