The 7th Presidential International Yacht Race shines a spotlight on Türkiye’s maritime prowess as the Atabay Challengers dominate the Çanakkale stage. Here’s why their victory could reshape the landscape of yacht racing in the region.
The Çanakkale stage, organized by the Istanbul Offshore Yacht Racing Club and supported by various government bodies, wraps up with a grand ceremony. The Atabay Challengers clinch the "Line Honours" award, completing the 140-nautical-mile course from Istanbul to Çanakkale in an impressive 15 hours and 27 minutes. They also take home the "Çanakkale Cup" by excelling in all three races held during the stage.
The event, which kicked off on April 23, featured over 500 athletes from 14 countries. The races on April 25, dubbed the "Victory Cup," pay homage to Türkiye’s rich history, starting with a ceremonial send-off led by notable officials including Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Safa Koçoglu Gürsoy.
Governor of Çanakkale Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Toraman highlights the province's unique appeal, asserting the importance of promoting sporting events in the Dardanelles.
