Auckland’s iconic waterfront is set to host The Ocean Race for its 50th anniversary, marking a triumphant return since 2018. This celebration promises to transform the city into a global sailing festival in February and March 2027.

This event isn’t just about sailing; it highlights Auckland's rich maritime heritage and its deep connection to one of the world's most prestigious races. The fleet arrives on February 20 and 21, featuring a Coastal Race on March 6 and Pro-Am racing on March 11, before departing for the next leg on March 14.

The Ocean Race Chair Richard Brisius emphasizes the significance of this milestone, reminiscing about the bond formed over five decades. He recalls the legendary Steinlager 2, skippered by Sir Peter Blake, which achieved an unprecedented clean sweep in the 1989-90 Whitbread Round the World Race.

Auckland will host The Ocean Race for the 11th time, concluding a grueling 14,000 nautical mile opening leg, making it a highlight of the season. The 2027 edition will feature foiling IMOCA boats, capable of speeds over 30 knots, promising thrilling competition. This event not only showcases sailing excellence but also embodies Kiwi values of adventure and teamwork.
