The BONDS Flying Roos SailGP team leads the pack after a thrilling opening day at the ENEL Rio Sail Grand Prix. This debut event in Rio de Janeiro places the Australians firmly in contention for a Super Sunday podium finish.

With tactical challenges and shifting winds testing the crews, the BONDS Flying Roos secured impressive results of 2nd, 8th, 3rd, and 3rd across four fleet races. Their 10 points put them ahead of the USA with 9 points and Germany with 8 points.

Driver and CEO Tom Slingsby expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, describing the day as a tough "game of snakes and ladders." Flight Controller Jason Waterhouse echoed this sentiment, noting the classic challenges of racing under Sugarloaf Mountain. Despite a penalty affecting their last race position, the team remains optimistic about their chances for victory.

This weekend is particularly special, as it marks a return to the Rio waters where Waterhouse and teammate Iain Jensen won Olympic silver in 2016. As they gear up for Finals Day, conditions are expected to remain light, but the team is ready for the challenge. The final races unfold between 4:00 AM - 5:30 AM AEST on Monday, 13 April in Australia.
