The inaugural weekend of the Beck Trophy series draws a competitive fleet to Overy Staithe Sailing Club. This new trophy honors the significant contributions of Peter and Melba Beck and their family, combining four pennant races into an exciting challenge.

Ten boats hit the water for Race 1 on Saturday, sailing under a light force 2 southwesterly breeze. Alex and Paul in their Sharpie took an impressive early lead, closely followed by Ash Deakin in his Laser and Pete Turner in his OK. Despite setbacks, including a penalty for Ash, the Sharpie finished two minutes ahead of Pete, with a thrilling close finish between them. After adjusting for personal handicaps, Pete edged Alex and Paul by just two seconds.

On Sunday, a cold northwesterly wind greeted eight sailors for the Jubilee Trust pennant race. A crowded start saw several boats over the line early, including Alex and Paul in their Sharpie. The tactical beat proved crucial, with Pete Turner navigating expertly to the windward mark, establishing a strong lead. Despite a valiant effort from the Sharpie, Pete maintained his position, with Spike Turner securing third in his OK.

The final two races for the Beck Trophy take place on May 2nd and 3rd, promising more action on the water.
