Bob Hodges clinches the 2026 U.S. Multihull Championship, showcasing remarkable consistency at the Columbia Sailing Club. This victory could redefine the future of multihull racing in the U.S.

Hodges dominated the competition, securing the Hobie Alter Trophy with a race to spare. Over four days and 11 races in the Weta Trimaran class, he finished outside the top three only twice, establishing a commanding lead. The battle for second was fierce, with Gareth Ferguson edging out Bill Swanson for the runner-up position, just six points separating positions two through five heading into the final races. Alan Taylor and Chuck Carroll rounded out the top five.

The regatta challenged sailors with a variety of conditions, from light winds to gusts in the low 20s. The opening day was particularly tough, with only one race completed amidst light air and subsequent abandonments. Bill Swanson claimed victory in that first race, while Ferguson shined on day two, securing two wins. Day three saw dramatic moments with capsizes and intense finishes, as Hodges and Carroll sped across the line. The final day faced fog and visibility issues but ultimately concluded successfully. Columbia Sailing Club, under Commodore David Krausz, delivered an exceptional championship experience, marking its third hosting of a U.S. Sailing National Championship.
