Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken’s hopes for a fourth 49er world title take a hit after a dramatic ‘Man Overboard!’ incident. This mishap occurs on day five of the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 World Championships in Quiberon, France, altering the race's dynamic.
Despite the setback, the competition remains fierce. After Lambriex and Van de Werken capsize while leading Race 12, the overall lead briefly shifts to German team Jakob Meggendorfer and Andreas Spranger. However, New Zealand's Mattias Coutts and Oscar Gunn steal the victory, while compatriots Seb Menzies and George Lee Rush reclaim the overall lead. With just two races left, the standings tighten, leaving Lambriex and Van de Werken 14 points behind the leaders but still in contention.
In the 49erFX Women’s division, reigning champions Paula Barceló and Maria Cantero from Spain dominate, showcasing remarkable consistency with scores of 10, 7, and 1. They lead the pack, while France's Manon Peyre and Amélie Riou fall to second, tied on points with Belgium's Isaura Maenhaut and Anouk Geurts.
In the Nacra 17 class, Italy's Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei surge ahead, now eight points clear of France’s Tim Mourniac and Lou Berthomieu.
