The Class40 fleet embarks on the 2nd edition of the CIC MED CHANNEL RACE today, racing 1,000 miles through the stunning western Mediterranean. This is exactly what we cover here every day — join the channel if you haven't yet.
At 1:00 PM local time, the competitors set sail from Marseille, navigating under the iconic Château d'If with winds of around fifteen knots. Leading the pack is vessel #142 PHARE 40, skippered by Mathieu Claveau and François Verdier, closely followed by #179 GLACES ROMANE, helmed by Laurent Camprubi and Samuel Buissart, and #168 RDT LOGISTICS - OCEAN CONNECT, led by Yves Courbon and Mathieu Henry.
Race director Miranda Merron has announced crucial course modifications, directing the fleet to bypass Calvi Bay due to potential calms, opting instead for a direct route to the Strait of Bonifacio. The course will take them around Menorca instead of Majorca, with further adjustments still possible throughout the race.
Weather forecasts predict an exciting mix of upwind sailing initially, followed by downwind legs as the race progresses. The fleet is expected to arrive back in Marseille next Friday evening, showcasing the Class40's blend of amateur and professional talent in the Mediterranean.
