Class40 fleet battles fiercely in the 2nd edition of the CIC MED CHANNEL RACE. This tactical showdown is not just a race but a strategic chess game on the water that could reshape the standings as competitors push towards Corsica and the Strait of Bonifacio.
As of 8:00 AM today, No. 134 STELLA NOVA, helmed by Omar Naas and Louis Torreilles, leads the pack, closely followed by No. 149 LES AILES DE CHARLOTTE and No. 155 FLAMINGO ROSSO. The competitors navigated a challenging course after departing from Marseille, avoiding calm winds off Corsica’s northwest coast.
The race began dramatically at 11:00 AM yesterday, with over 11,000 viewers tuning in via Facebook Live as the boats launched from the Mucem basin. The bay of Marseille provided striking scenery, featuring the Frioul Islands and Château d'If. After a tactical battle, STELLA NOVA crossed the Porquerolles harbor entrance first at 9:00 PM.
As they sail south, a thunderstorm looms. The fleet is tightly packed, with the top five competitors within just 5 nautical miles of each other. They expect to reach the second ranking gate around midnight, setting their sights on the southern tip of Sardinia early Wednesday morning.
