Day three of the ORC World Championship 2026 features a thrilling coastal race around Capri, intensifying the competition in this prestigious sailing event.
Here’s why this race is crucial: it could redefine the standings as teams vie for the top spots with just one day left to race.
The coastal race spans 19 to 25 nautical miles, with Classes 0 and A starting closer to shore while Classes B and C begin further offshore near Sorrento. All fleets navigate around Capri, battling variable weather conditions, including scattered thunderstorms and a steady breeze of around 10 knots. Italy's Vudu, helmed by Mauro Gestri, claims line honors, followed by RocketNikka and the American Final Final. In the overall standings, Summer Storm leads, with RocketNikka and Vudu trailing closely.
In Class A, Sweden’s Ran, skippered by Niklas Zennström, finishes first, maintaining the overall lead. Italy's To Be and Selene - Alifax follow. Fabio De Simoni from Lisa R highlights the challenge of the upwind leg to Capri and the tactical choices that led to their second-place finish.
Class B sees Mascalzone Latino, with Vincenzo Onorato at the helm, take victory, edging out Katara and Flying Dolphin Too. The competition heats up as the championship approaches its final day.
